A West Michigan Wedding at Briar Barns and Frederik Meijer Gardens

Some wedding days effortlessly blend rustic charm with elegant garden romance, and this beautiful Michigan celebration was the perfect example. From a relaxed morning getting ready at Briar Barns to a heartfelt ceremony at Frederik Meijer Gardens, every part of this day was unforgettable.

The Wedding Morning at Briar Barns

The day started with rain, while M + C got ready at Briar Barns, in Sparta Michigan. By the time they had finished getting ready, the rain had cleared, and gave way to a soft, cloudy sky. Father and daughter, mother and son, and M and C had their first look by the willow tree and ivy-wrapped barn. It was an emotional moment, filled with happy tears and heartfelt hugs. The wedding party celebrated with photos, a pop of champagne, and lots of hugs and laughter,

Ceremony at Frederik Meijer Gardens

We then made our way to Frederik Meijer Gardens. After some family formals, we explored the gardens together for couples portraits. Every pathway, garden, and unique architecture gave us a variety of spots to work with. We then took a shuttle to the ceremony space, located by the waterfall in the Japanese garden. C walked down the aisle to a recording of her voice singing, and M stood at the altar weeping. There was not a dry eye in the crowd. After much tears and laughter, M + C exchanged vows in the garden, standing in the same spot they’d had their very first date 5 years ago.

Portraits and Reception at Briar Barns

The reception took place back in Briar Barns. M + C had their first dance to live music by the Heritage Hills string quartet, followed by a traditional tea ceremony for their families. Dinner was served buffet style, a blend of Chinese and Filipino cuisine. The food, along with traditional desserts, celebrated the couples’ respective cultures coming together.

At sunset, Briar Barns was covered in the dreamiest golden hour light. The fog from the rain earlier that day, mixed with the golden hour sun, made for a cinematic view. M + C sneaked out for some quick golden hour portraits, before returning to the barn for speeches and dancing. Several heartfelt speeches later, the brides’ parents sang a special song for the newlywed couple. Then the dancing began, and lasted well into the night!
